Most everyone knows by now that R and I are going on a travel nursing journey spanning this country and taking us to who knows where (Hawaii please!). We're pretty excited and hope to see some great places! By the way, if we swing into your part of town, maybe we could hang out or crash on your couch? So far our first stop is Denver.    I thought it'd be appropriate for my first post to be about packing/moving. First of all, I despise packing. I hate it even when I'm packing just for a few day trip. "Did I bring everything?" "What if it's cold?" "Will I need my long johns?" "How many swimsuits should I bring?" I hope other people are feeling my pain here. The worst thing about packing is, to quote my friend JK, my "pink bunny" syndrome. It's where I move from room to room packing a few things here and there and generally just making a bigger mess with nothing to show for it. R typically doesn't stand for this and tries to get me focused by giving me small chunks of tasks here and there so as to satisfy my pink bunny.
Second, packing for this move is ridiculous. Since we have no true destination and will be living out of our cars/hotels/apartments we can't bring everything. Instead, we get to chunk up our belongings and only bring the bare essentials. This is hard for me since I've grown attached to many useless things, like wedding pictures, the basket in my kitchen I put fruit in, the lamp that has shelves which is both functional and practical, the free chair that sounds like you farted every time you sit in it, etc. Since I'm attached, I find it hard to choose at times what to take. R has taken the liberty of just removing things before I get a say and then when I ask where they are he tells me he's already put them in the storage shed-in the back, under 17 boxes, at the bottom, in a locked box. So I sit forlorn in my pink bunny mess that I've made and wonder what the heck I just did for the last 5 hours. Oh yeah, I put that in that box and moved that to that box and so on.
Lastly, moving is for people who like to lift awkward heavy things down 7 flights of stairs while it's 115 degrees outside. Don't get me wrong I like to be able to lift heavy things, but with purpose. I enjoy helping my dad put hay in the loft and lifting weights at the gym, but carrying a couch down the steps in the heat after you stubbed your toe and your index finger got jammed in the doorway is not my kind of fun. Plus, getting things out of your apartment makes you wonder how you got them in there in the first place. Are you sure this fit through the door? No I'm pretty sure we slung the couch over the balcony over 4 stories high with a rope and pulley system. Luckily we had an awesome friend with a sweet truck stop by and help for a few hours. This freed me up for some more pink bunny (I was actually quite productive while he was here), but it also got me out of carrying the super heavy things as R and our friend M sweated through the awkward couch phase and gently carried the broken antique dresser from my great Aunt. Needless to say, if I was Wonder Woman you know I'd have my lasso out and be chucking things here and there until all the heavy stuff was out, but disappointingly, I'm just K, but I could get her outfit at a store and see how that works out for me. Wish me luck!

At this point it's safe to say R's been working and I've been sitting. It's great he loves me so much. :) Don't worry, I'm not as lazy as you may think at this point. He's just making up for the fact that I'll be full employed for the next year while he'll be subbing/temping at best.

Thanks for all your support and I'll keep you posted!

  1. If you are ever in the Portland, OR and/or SW Washington area (Longview or Astoria) you two are more than welcome to crash stay in our guest room. Lol. I can even give R some sub gigs or help him with certain districts. :) Bon voyage!
